讲座内容：

This presentation is about how to understandutterances of the Americans in a variety of situations. The presenter is todefine culture and cultural context, and show how specific speech acts areperformed and understood under relevante cultural assumptions. This is not justa topic of cultural pragmatics, but also one of how practical examples ofAmerican cultural performances and failures might be properly interpreted andunderstood. It is particularly important for English majors and other languagelearners to build up or strengthen their cultural awareness and sensitivity.

主讲人介绍：

何刚：华东师范大学英语系教授、博士生导师、文化语用学研究者、中国逻辑学会语用学专业委员会副会长。国际杂志“东亚语用学编委”审稿人，国家社科项目主持人，《浙江大学学报人文社科版》、《天津大学学报社科版》、《东北大学学报社科版》、《现代外语》等杂志特约审稿人；曾担任过Intercultural Pragmatics 编委，长期从事理论语言学和语用学研究，目前主要兴趣在文化语用学体系的研究。他先后发表了“语用方式--语用的语法化”、“文化设定与言语行为”、“试论文化语用原则”、“文化理性的语用学解释”“文化指示方式的解释”、“文化语境的定义”等系列论文，对提问言语行为、使动言语行为、情感表达行为、心理语用学等都进行过深入的研究，并发表过文章。何刚教授秉承继承与创新的学术精神，在文化语用学科不断开拓前进。他比较注重学科基础和学术前沿的结合，着力于话语解释的原创性研究，对语用的微观研究非常用心。
